Saturday’s game was always going to be a tough battle and chance for redemption after S.Stefano’s 40pt loss to Santa Lucia in our last bout. The boys had been training hard all week and tweeking strategy for a game that most would have thought was a forgone conclusion after some recent lack in performance from S.Stefano. From the first siren it could not have been further from the truth as the S.Stefano boys showed they the came ready to play.
With a crowd of over 100 fans from our loyal Captains home town there was great atmosphere in the stadium. Although the first quarter saw the power swing to Santo Lucia gaining an early 11-17 lead. In the second quarter S.Stefano came out firing sticking to the game plan and putting points on the board. Steaming into the half time break and closing the gap to just 3 pts to 33-36. Already two points above S.Stefano’s total score from the last encounter.
Again the 3rd quarter was tight battle. Santa Lucia changed things up a bit putting a 3 big man combination on court that we struggled to stop inside due to our lack of match ups to their height. But we stayed in the fight finishing the half 20pts a piece and keep the hopes of a win alive.
Due to the height difference between the teams a lot of our points came from well outside the key way in Raimunds Beginskis (32pts) and Dimitri Tanghie (17pts). Santa Lucia powered on through the last quarter and S.Stefano did their best to keep them on their toes but it was to no avail, Santa Lucia clutched a difficult 8 point victory.
Final Scores : 69-77
This week is on the road again this time to Padova which is a very important game if we want to keep our playoff hopes alive.
