S.Stefano continued their 4 game winning streak last night at home against Cagliari. In an affair that was dominated in the early stages of the game by the phenomenal 3pt shooting of S.Stefano. The first quarter saw Raimonds Beginskis knocking down 6 3pointers and Dimitri Tanghe adding one more for good measure making up all the points for S.Stefano from well outside in the opening round of this battle. Intense pressure was applied to Cagliari in the 1st half of the game in a tactic which was effectively used to disable their main scorers. Huge efforts in defense from Robbie Cerscioli who was often the last line before the basket. The buckets continued to drop from outside the key much to the frustration of Cagliari who had nothing to reply with against the combination of S.Stefano man to man defence and outside threats. Icing on the cake for the first half was Tanghe's long range missile from 2m outside the 3pt line NBA style basket.
Although lapses in concentration and 3 players in foul trouble (myself, Jace Clare and Tanghe); all on 3 fouls with jubious decisions made from the referees in the first half saw Cagliari continue to fight and remain in touch going into the second half with 10pt advantage to S.Stefano.
S.Stefano continued with outside dominance from the 1st half but this time assisted with awesome performances off the bench from Mosler, Giampy, Angelo and Marco. S.Stefano felt like they were doing battle against 2 teams out on the court at sometimes last night and in final quarter myself, Clare and Tanghe were all fouled out between the 8 and 4 min mark. Again the strength of S.Stefano's whole team shone through and we were able to hang on for the win in letting Cagliari come back to 2 points but finishing the game 82-67.
Another great team peformance and again S.Stefano showed that they can go 5 deep on the bench and still come out with the 'W' against quality opposition.
