Twitter Tip: How to shorten a link when posting to Twitter

Twitter
is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

If you have a Twitter account and wish to Post messages from our news page to your Twitter account you can select the Twitter icon underneath the article.

However, when you do this it copies the entire URL (web address) of the articles location. More often than not, this is longer than 140 characters. It needs to be shortened.

Once you have clicked the Twitter icon, it posts the information to your account. Go to TinyURL.com Cut the entire web address in yout Twitter post and paste it into the TinyURL page. It will convert the long link to a short link. Copy the short link and paste into your Twitter post.

Until Twitter can automatically shorten the web addresses posted, this manula process will need to be done.
